Strolling through the Julia Morgan Ballroom, located in the Merchants Exchange Building in the heart of downtown San Francisco, immediately draws your interest to the neoclassical architecture eluding the echoes of romanticism. These influencing elegant details draw inspiration to its timeless, classic style. The barrel-vaulted lobby has elements of marble, gold leaf, and bronze. The ballroom features floor to ceiling arched windows providing beautiful views of San Francisco’s stunning skyline and rich mahogany wood paneling with an intricate honeycomb ceiling design. This gorgeous venue truly is impressive for any bride dreaming of a romantic, angelic wedding, which is why we chose it for our styled shoot.
Normally this beautiful over the top ballroom can seat 350 guests, however we opted for a more intimate ceremony, reception, and lounge set up. Instead of your basic centerpieces or cake table, we were inspired to make it a vision of its own by creating a focal point of floating centerpieces, cake and dessert bar that were fully suspended. These details would surely wow your guests.
There is something captivating about a soft neutral color palette of champagne, gold, and ivory as it allows all the details to shine through and stand out. For the table design, we used a glamorous blush champagne sequin linen from Napa Valley Linens with gold champagne satin napkins. The stunning centerpiece mixed gold foliage with ivory and white floral in both the suspension and tabletop arrangements to create just the right amount of classic and romantic elegance. This classic table set up was enhanced with detailed napkin broaches, gold flatware, gold-rimmed glassware and china, and the stand out starburst murano gold chargers, from Hartmann Studio Rentals. These gold details sure make the elegant statement. Lighting was major element in this beautiful ballroom, so we wanted lots of candles to be used throughout the suspended arrangement as well as multiple heights on the table. To bathe the palate and stimulate your appetite in between meals we featured a shooter of sorbet and champagne.
For the ceremony, we opted to create a very small and intimate set up by using a canopy to cover the entire aisle and chairs. This canopy was covered with champagne swags and draping, with ivory flowers and gold leaf details inside suspended glass bulbs. The ceremony was placed in front of their beautiful fireplace creating a gorgeous backdrop for the bride and groom while exchanging vows. We placed gold pillar candles all along the mantel of the fireplace to add a little height and balance of the light and flame.
The small lounge area consisted of champagne and mirrored furniture with a sheer drape backdrop. To create depth in the backdrop, we added drape swags to the sides and a large gold mirror suspended in the middle. This lounge was perfectly in tune with our overall feel for the shoot.
Aerialist Press created a very classic letterpress invitation suite using ivory overall with a gold foiled press. The intricate monogram design was used throughout each piece of the suite creating a uniform elegant look. The menus had an ivory ribbon detail at the top of each to create depth and subtle touch of femininity.
The wedding dress was hand selected for its feminine yet glamorous style with the stunning silk textured hand cut lace, open back, and embellished shoulder details. Our model’s hair was done in an understated way, while the makeup was done with a stand out gold smoky eye.
